Spaghetti Bolognese!

I‘m back again with another Cooking&Baking blog post, which must mean I have been let loose in the kitchen again! This week I cooked up a Spaghetti/Sliced Greens Bolognese for my family and it went down well, quite literally, I didn’t make anyone ill thank god!

So what you will need to make this dish is:

  • Handful of Spaghetti or Handful of Sliced Greens
  • 500g Mince
  • 1/2 Peppers – Orange, Yellow and Red
  • 1 clove of Garlic
  • 1 Onions
  • 1 tin of Chopped Tomatoes
  • Water
  • half a sachet of Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe Mix

I learnt that making Spaghetti Bolognese is one of the simplest dishes you could make and luckily for me it’s my favourite dish too!

Firstly you have to brown the mince, which simply means waiting for the pink mince to turn brown! I used a medium-high heat.

Whilst the mince is browning you can then prep your chosen vegetables – I picked a clove of garlic, an onion and 1/2 red, 1/2 yellow and 1/2 orange peppers. You can chop these down to as small as you like. 

Once the mince is fully browned and all your vegetables are chopped you can add them to the mince. I also added half a cup of boiling water to, just so that nothing burns. I stirred the mince and vegetables together and continued to do so until the water evaporated.

I then added a tin of chopped tomatoes into the mix and half a sachet of the Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe Mix – Herbs and Spices. I stirred that in and added around a cup and a half of boiling water. I put the lid on a pan and put the pan on a low heat and let it simmer.


Whist it was simmering I decided to start the spaghetti. So I boiled my kettle, filled the pan with the hot water and then added a handful of spaghetti. Only then my mum told me she would like Cabbage instead of pasta. So I agreed, set up another pan and boiled the kettle again. I added the hot water to the other pan, got a CABBAGE out of the fridge and this where I was confused. How are you meant to cook cabbage? I shouted to my mum asking if i were to break it up or what and she replied no, just put it in the hot water. So I did just that…

It was only until my mum came to check on me that APPARENTLY the Cabbage I put in the pan of boiling water, was not the “RIGHT” one and what she actually wanted was Sliced Greens… So here I am cooking away waiting for this cabbage to just break up, when in fact I was using the complete wrong thing.

Besides that little issue, I allowed everything to cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring everything every now and then. Once the water had almost evaporated from the mince and the pasta and Sliced Greens were soft, it is ready to dish up. Once plated I topped mine off with grated mature cheddar cheese!

And there it is… my first attempt at making Spaghetti/Sliced Greens Bolognese! Which, in the end, actually turned out pretty great! I am so glad I made this, simply because it is my favourite dish and now I can make it for myself whenever I like!
